Dutse, Jan. 10, 2016 (NAN) The Jigawa Government trained 4,100 teachers in primary and junior secondary schools in the last 17 months, an official said on Tuesday in Dutse.

At a news conference, the Executive Chairman of State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Salisu Zakar, said that the government also promoted 4,301 teachers in 2016.

He said that the government also sponsored 870 teachers to acquire additional qualifications.

Zakar said that the government carried out most of the training in collaboration with development partners such as Teachers Development Programme and Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria.

He said that 640 teachers were trained on early childcare development for pupils below seven years.

“The funds used to train the teachers were provided by the Universal Basic Education Commission and the development partners,” the chairman said.
