Lafia, Jan. 10, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State Chapter of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has called on Gov. Umaru Al-Makura to respect the court judgment that ordered dissolution of Interim Management Committee (IMC) chairmen of local government councils.

Musa Saidu, State APGA Chairman made the call while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a high court sitting in Lafia recently dissolved the IMC chairmen and ordered the state government to conduct election.

Saidu said the governor should comply with the judgment and dissolve the IMC immediately.

He said that the constitution of Nigeria did not recognise the appointment of persons to run the affairs of  local governments outside elected officials.

“The law court saddled with the responsibility of interpreting the constitution has done its job and the decision should be respected by all citizens, especially leaders,” Saidu said.

“Whatever the nomenclature is, call it Transitional Management Committee (TMC) or IMC, it does not have a place in the constitution of the country,” he said.

Saidu advised the government to put measures in place towards the conduct of local government election that would produce authentic leaders to administer the local councils.

The chairman also said that the party has zoned the 2019 governorship ticket to Nasarawa-North, following the call by various interest groups and stakeholders from the zone.

“Following the demands of the people of Nasarawa North Senatorial district to produce the next governor of the state come 2019, leadership of our party has zoned it to the zone.

“Since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1999 till date, the other two zones in the state had produced the governor, except Nasarawa North. (NAN)
