Lagos, Jan.10, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday described as misleading, a recent report that most of its officers had not declared their assets as directed by the Comptroller-General, Hammed Ali.
Godwin Andishu, spokesman, Tin Can Island Port 2 Customs Command, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that all officers in all the commands had complied with the directive.

He urged the public to disregard the report by a maritime-focused newspaper, saying all officers in all the commands had complied with the directive.
“We read with dismay in a recent maritime publication that only 1,200 out of the 15,000 personnel in the customs have so far complied with the directive on assets declaration.
“We want to say that the report is misleading as all officers of the service nationwide have complied with the directive by the Comptroller- General to declare their assets.
“At Tin Can Island Port 2 Command, all our 150 officers have declared their assets within the three months deadline given last year.
“And it is on record that over 1000 personnel in the commands in Lagos, including Tin Can and Apapa, have declared their assets.
“So this report cannot just be true. We urge the public to disregard it,’’ he said.
Andishu said the assets declaration directive was aimed at promoting accountability and transparency in the service.
He added that all customs personnel were in agreement with the anti-corruption drive of the service aimed at improving efficiency and revenue. (NAN)
