Lagos, Jan. 10, 2017 (NAN) The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) on Tuesday advised the Federal Government to pay special attention to the issues of literature and culture in 2017.

ANA`s president, Mr Abdulahi Denja, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos while highlighting the association`s expectations for 2017.

He said that in 2016 the association did not get more support from the government.

Denja, however, appealed to the government to continue to create an environment conducive for learning and imbibing of the nation`s cultural values.

“This year, we want better cooperation from the government so that 2017 will be better.

“There are so many things that we have proposed for 2017; we want funding for the art and culture.

“We want government`s special intervention to develop the sector so that the art community and culture community can access those funds,’’ he said.

Denja disclosed that the association would commence the distribution of books to schools across the country in the first quarter of 2017.

“We are in the process of working on those books and it will be ready by the end of first quarter for distribution.

“In 2016, we achieved all our set targets and we hope to do better this year,’’ he said.

He also urged the Federal Government to increase funding for the education sector in 2017. (NAN)
