Abuja, Jan. 9, 2017 (NAN) The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Security Committee, on Monday in Abuja warned vandals of public utilities and scavengers in the territory to desist from the act or be sanctioned.
The Chief Press Secretary to FCT Minister, Hazat Sule, said in a statement that the committee chaired of the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, has resolved to put an end to act of vandalism and scavenging in the city.
The committee also directed the security agents to also restrict the activities of scavengers to dumpsites and arrest any of them found roaming around the city.
“The committee resolved that such act must stop forthwith, as the security agents would clamp down on any suspected vandal and be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The committee noted that most of the traffic lights in Abuja metropolis have been vandalised, which has led to signal failure in such interchanges.’’
Sule said that the committee also regretted that most street lights especially those at the outskirts of the city have been vandalised and warned that all perpetrators would be tracked down to face prosecution.
He quoted Bello as saying that the administration this year would give serious attention to the problems of traffic offenders, illegal activities of commercial motorcyclists, vandalism of public utilities.
The minister said that there would be restriction of tricycle “Keke NAPEP,” to designated areas.
He said that abandoned and uncompleted buildings across the city would be properly monitored, adding that owners of such properties would be held responsible for any security breach in such places.
