Success
By Akeem Abas
Ibadan, Jan. 9, 2017 (NAN) A cleric, Sunday Popoola, has urged Nigerians to be steadfast in prayers, assuring the nation of unprecedented success in the new year.
Popoola gave the assurance in Ibadan on Monday during the 2017 Universal Week of Prayer organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State Chapter.
In his sermon entitled, “Way Out for the Nation,’’ he urged Nigerians to forget the experiences of the past, noting that God was about to do a new thing.
He said that good things happen to people unknowingly, emphasising that the beginning of new things in 2016 had rolled over into the present year.
Popoola cited the emergence of Donald Trump as America’s president against all odds, calling it one of the signs that God was already on the verge of doing new things.
“A larger number of American citizens were of the opinion that Hillary Clinton, wife of former President Bill Clinton, would emerge as the elected president.
“The victory of Trump was a significant sign that a new thing is beginning in the world.
“All the former five presidents of US were against him; even the press ran him down.
“If not for the grace of God, it is difficult to withstand the challenges and still win the election,” he said.
He said that one of the things God would do would be to outpour his unprecedented spirit and bring out real people who would project His goodwill on earth.
Popoola charged all Christians to do away with material things and passionately seek the things of God.
This, he said, was the only key by which they could find the favour of God.
The Oyo State CAN Chairman, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu, said the programme was organised to pray for God’s guidance in the dealings of political leaders in the country.
He admonished political office holders to always allow God to direct their affairs, while advising Nigerians to develop a positive mind toward the current economic recession in the nation.
“There is no achievement that does not have its own associated pains and challenges.
“We should look at the recession that has faced the nation as a visitor that will soon evaporate into thin air.
“We should see it as one of the challenges that must come our way for the country to be able to attain the position of a developed nation,” he said. (NAN)
