Kano Fire service saves 1,655 lives, N332.4bn goods

Kano, Jan.7, 2017 (NAN) The Kano State Fire Service says it has saved 1,655 lives and goods worth N332.4 billion from 666 fire outbreaks in 2016.
The Director of state Fire Service, Alhaji Mustapha Rilwan, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Kano.
Rilwan, however, put the estimated property destroyed by fire during the period at N30.3 billion.
“We received 1,322 rescue calls and 214 false alarms from the public,” he said.
Rilwan who said that 1,655 lives were saved from the incidents, regretted that 120 lives were lost.
The director said that the State Government has given the service two Hilux vans to ease inspections in both public and private places such as factories and filling stations.
He solicited for more support from the government, NGOs and philanthropists to strengthen the service toward improved service delivery. (NAN)
