Gusau, Jan. 5, 2017 (NAN) Some traders in Gusau have encouraged the use of local products as part of measures to boost the nation’s economy, according to a survey by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Alhaji Aliyu Mafara, a rice seller at the “Old Market’’, Gusau, said that extra-steps had been taken to improve on the processing of locally-produced rice.

Mafara added that buyers would not have to go through the stress of picking stones from the grain.

“We now have polished local rice available in the market and at affordable price, a big bowl of rice costs only N800 and it has high nutritional value.

“Nigerians should buy more of local rice that is cheap and nutritious, and also encourage the farmers, and at the same time boost the economy of the country,’’ he said.

A yam seller, Shuaib Abubakar at “New Market’’, Gusau, said that in spite of the adverse economic situation, sales were gradually picking up.

He told NAN that the yams he sold in the market were produced from his farm, through which he catered for his family and other relatives.

“I sell up to 100 tubers of Yam daily.

“There are some challenges in the business, though, like some times, we find it difficult to make good sales, but everything is due to the situation in the country.

“The easy solution to this problem is for people to work hard, and think of what to do for a living through the numerous opportunities in the country,’’ he said.

Malam Shefiu Aliyu, a provision seller, also encouraged consumption of local products and urged Nigerians to buy more of it.

Aliyu stressed that through the patronage of locally produced goods, the nation’s economy was likely to improve. (NAN)
