2 men, teenager in court over alleged breach of peace, membership of secret cult

Lagos, Dec. 30, 2016 (NAN) For allegedly fighting in a public place and belonging to a secret cult, two men and a teenager were on Friday docked before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused are: Toibu Tajudeen (22), a carpenter, lives at 25, Alfa Nla St., Agege; Asema Oluwatobi (18), also a carpenter, lives at 51, Market St., Agege, a suburb of Lagos.

The third accused is a 16-year-old boy, a secondary school student (name withheld), who lives at Oloyede St., Agege, a Lagos suburb.

They are being tried for conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society.

The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the offences were committed on Dec. 18, along Capitol Road, Agege, Lagos.

Aigbokhan said that information got to the police that two groups of secret cults were fighting each other and they swung into action.

“When the police arrived at the scene, others escaped but the three accused were apprehended,” he said.

The prosecutor also said that it was through police investigation that they got to know that the people apprehended belonged to a secret cult called “Awawa”.

The offences, he said, contravened Sections 42, 44 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, all pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Akokhia, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the case to Jan. 24, for mention. (NAN)
