Lagos, Dec. 29, 2016 (NAN) A 35-year-old commercial bus driver, Sakiru Adeleke, who allegedly stole a bus tyre, was on Thursday in Lagos remanded in prison pending the perfection of his bail condition.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, said the accused should be kept in Kirikiri Prisons.
The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O Ekogbulu had granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the case to Jan. 9 for mention.
The accused, who resides in Abule-Egba area of Lagos State, is facing a charge of stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec. 14 at Saitos Avenue, Abule-Egba, Lagos.
He said the accused stole the tyre of a bus, property of Mr Adesegun Tijani.
“The accused was caught removing the tyre in the middle of the night and was arrested as he had been seen several times on the street vandalising vehicles.”
The offence contravened section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders. (NAN)
