Ijebu-Ode (Ogun), Dec. 25, 2016 (NAN) The Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Ogun has advised commuters to always board vehicles at the motor parks to avoid incidents of robbery and abductions on the highways.

The Organising Secretary of the union, Mr Lateef Sanusi, made the call in Ijebu-Ode on Sunday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Sanusi, hoodlums could take advantage of increased vehiclular movement during festive periods to harm careless commuters.

He, therefore, urged those who were fond of going for low transport fares to be more vigilant during festivities so as to save themselves from unpleasant circumstances.

Sanusi added that transporters and motor park administrators had devised strategies to ensure safety of passengers who patronised designated parks to get to their locations safely.

“The commuters must desist from boarding vehicles by the roadsides away from the parks as such actions put them at risks of kidnappers, robbers and ritualists whose activities are rampant in this period.

“Always endeavour to board your vehicles at the motor parks where each vehicle is registered and can be accounted for.

“On no account should you risk your life and patronise the popular ‘One Chance’ or ‘Sole’ vehicles as you cannot determine their true intentions.

“We will continue to raise awareness on this to enlighten people not to board vehicles by the roadsides, no matter how cheap the fares are.

“Crimes are on the increase and so should our vigilance,” Sanusi said.

The RTEAN official disclosed that a disciplinary task force had been assigned to punish anyone caught picking passengers along the road by impounding such vehicles.(NAN)
