Zaria (Kaduna State), Dec. 23, 2016 (NAN) The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) has performed free surgical operations, diagnoses and treatment of 5,250 patients in one week, an official said on Friday.
Dr Waziri Aliyu-Dahiru, the outgoing President of NARD in the hospital, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zaria, Kaduna State.
He said that the intervention was offered by members of the association during the “NARD 2016 Health Week”.
He said that surgical operations were conducted on 250 patients, while the remaining 5,000 received drugs after they were diagnosed and treated.
He identified some of the illnesses treated to include; Lipoma, Hernia, Hydrocele, Appendicitis, and Fibroid.
Aliyu-Dahiru said the beneficiaries were drawn from the eight local government areas of Northern Kaduna Senatorial District.
He said: “Health week is an annual program designed to assist the less-privileged Nigerian in line with the association’s corporate social responsibilities, to mark the end of the year chain of programmes.
“This year we carried out some activities such as community outreach, free surgical operations on patients, provision of medication and visitations to orphanages, all in line with the culture of the association.
“We dedicated teams of experts who have wealth of experience among us, who throughout the week engaged in marvelous activities just as a pay back to the society,” he said.
The outgoing chairman explained that the visit to orphanage homes and four communities was part of the association’s medical medical outreach programme and to give the less privileged a sense of belonging. (NAN)
