Lafia, Dec. 21, 2016 (NAN) The Nasarawa State Government said it had granted financial autonomy to the State University, Keffi, and its three other tertiary educational institutions.

The state Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Othman Ibrahim-Ahmed, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday during the breakdown of the state 2017 budget in Lafia.

Ibrahim-Ahmed said government deliberately granted the institutions financial autonomy to enable them meet up their financial demands.

“The financial autonomy would enable the institutions to meet up their financial demands and also ensure sound academic standard.

“Despite this, the state government would still continue to provide subvention regularly as part of its contribution to the higher institutions in the state.

“The higher institutions are by this decision required to prepare their own annual budget and submit it to their respective governing councils for vetting,” he said.

The commissioner explained that after the vetting by their various governing councils, they would forward it to the Ministry of Budget and Planning for endorsement before presentation to the State Assembly for approval.

He said that the directive by the state government to all tertiary institutions to comply with its policy of Treasury Single Account (TSA) was on course.

Ibrahim-Ahmed said that the state government had set all necessary measures in motion to commence the full implementation of the TSA by the end of February 2017. (NAN)
