Lagos, Dec. 19, 2016 (NAN) The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Nkanu Onnoghen, has officially inaugurated the remodelled Court of Appeal complex in Lagos.
The inauguration which took place at the premises of the court of appeal Lagos on Monday, was graced by officials of the Lagos State Government and presiding justices of various divisions of the court in Nigeria.
The CJN urged staffers to be diligent in the dispensation of their official duties, adding that the Lagos division of the court was known for its hard work.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that earlier, in her address, the President of the court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, said that the re-modelling of the court was to keep it more in tune with recent development.
According t6o her, after this commissioning, it will now be possible to conduct proceedings and carry out duties in a conducive atmosphere for the benefit of the public.
The re-modelling was carried out in chambers, offices, courtrooms, libraries, administrative blocks and offices as well as court halls, she said.
She said that although the project encountered a lot of financial hitches, she was particularly grateful to the Lagos state government for its cooperation and support.
She urged the government to continuously lend its support wherever the need arose.
Also, Mr Onyekachi Ubani,second Vice President of the NBA, expressing his thanks on behalf of the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and called for the creation of more divisions of the court.
According to him, there are so many cases pending before the courts for hearing, due to shortage of personnel and courtrooms.
He called for a replication of the judicial practice in Singapore, adding that Nigeria was bestowed with the finances to be the best.
In attendance at the event were, presiding justices of the court of appeal from divisions like Enugu, Owerri, Kaduna, Lagos, amongst others.
The Eyo masquerade dance was among the various cultural dances displayed to add colour to the event. (NAN)
