Lagos, Dec. 19, 2016 (NAN) The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos Police Command, has assured travellers and other airport users of adequate security during the Yuletide.

The Spokesman of the command, DSP Joseph Alabi, gave the assurance while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.

Alabi said: “I want to assure travellers and other airport users that the Police are on ground to guarantee their safety and security during this Yuletide.

“We have made adequate preparations to prevent criminals from operating within the airport environment.

“Our patrol teams and plain-clothed officers are on ground to monitor the situation at all times.

“So, I believe that we will keep the tempo going and I am assuring them that during this Christmas and New Year period and beyond, the command will continue to ensure their safety and security.’’

He also warned touts to stay away from the airport during the period, as the Police would not hesitate to prosecute them, when apprehended.

According to him, no fewer than 32 persons, who were recently arrested by the police at the airport, will be charged to court this week.

Alabi said they would be charged with unlawful entry and touting, which contravened the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by-laws.

He said:“Our surveillance team is working round the clock to thwart their nefarious activities. We don’t want them to take advantage of innocent travellers, especially during this period.

“So, I can say that we have been able to reduce touting at the airport with these measures, but we are not going to relax because we know that there will always be people who are coming here for such.” (NAN)
