Jos, Dec. 19, 2016 (NAN) Mr Dashe Arlat, Acting Chairman, Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, (PSIRS), on Monday in Jos lauded the passage of the State Revenue Harmonisation Bill by the State House of Assembly.
Arlat told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the bill would empower the Service to generate huge revenue for the government to carry out many of its statutory responsibilities.
The bill, passed into law on Friday, provided for the harmonisation of revenue collection by all Plateau State Government ministries, departments and agencies.
The chairman said: “ This is what the Service has been looking forward to and it has finally come true; we now have the teeth to bite and to collect huge revenue for the state.
“In fact, the passage of the bill by the House of Assembly is historic and will stimulate us towards fulfilling our mandate as a revenue generating agency of government.
“All that we need now is the cooperation and demonstration of understanding from all ministries, agencies and departments as well as all the 17 Local Governments for us to succeed in this direction.
According to him, all informal sectors would be captured under the new law, using the Service’s automated tax collection.
“We have a collective agreement on modalities for collection of revenue toward eliminating multiple taxation and stimulating huge revenue, especially with the present economic realities,’’ he said.
Arlat warned tax payers against default, saying; “we shall deal decisively with defaulters or evaders now that we have the law backing us.’’ (NAN)
