Abuja, Dec. 18, 2016 (NAN) The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission says it is investigating staff of the state Judiciary over alleged non-remittance of N100 million revenue to government coffers.

The anti-graft agency also disclosed that some workers of KAROTA, the state traffic control authority, are under investigation over an alleged N50 million corruption case.

Malam Muhuyi Rimingado, the Executive Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

He added that the commission in collaboration with ICPC is prosecuting some staff
in the 37 Microfinance Banks of the state over alleged embezzlement of N207 million.

Besides, Rimingado said that the commission is also prosecuting a serving Commissioner, Permanent Secretary and a Director on alleged N9.5 million land fraud.

He said the commission is also prosecuting a District Head and his six other accomplices involved in shady land deals amounting to more than N44 million.

The chairman said the commission had recovered more than N1.150 billion in cash, movable and immovable properties.

Rimingado commended Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje for supporting the agency to enjoy its independence without hindrance and unnecessary interference as provided by Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Law 2008 as amended.

He added that since 2015 when the administration came into office, it reorganised the commission by making it stronger and to function without interference.

The chairman added that the non-interference policy adopted by Ganduje had earned the commission public acceptance as an unbiased anti-corruption ombudsman.

According to him, the commission had established functional offices in all the 44 local government areas in the state to enlarge its scope of operation at grass root and to bring commission closer to the people.

He said the commission had received more than 7,000 petitions and complaints since its inception 11 years ago, stressing that available statistics shows that the number is increasing arithmetically per annum.

He observed that corruption is a cancer and major cause of under development that disproportionately affected the poor.

Rimingado solicited for support, cooperation and unity of purpose in fighting corruption as a common enemy.

He said Nigeria was endowed with abundant human and natural resources that could make the country one of the most prosperous and economically buoyant nations in the whole world.

However, the chairman noted with dismay that “corruption is hampering the growth and development of our economy.

“Corruption fuels militancy which threatens corporate existence of our nation’’. (NAN)
