Abuja, Dec. 18, 2016 (NAN) Ghanaian Vincent Torgah has taken the lead after playing -7 (65) on the second day of the West Africa Golf Tour Championship in Owerri.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the WAGT Championship which teed-off on Dec. 16 would be concluded on Dec. 18 at the Arsenal Golf Club, Obinze, Owerri, Imo.
Chief Edwin Osuhor, the Rule Official confirmed the result to NAN on Sunday.
He said: “Torgah who played -2 in the second round takes the lead from Nigeria’s Andrew Odoh with a total score of 9 under.”
“Ghanaian Torgah comes in first position after shooting 7 under (65) in the second round of the West Africa Golf Tour Championship.
“In the history of the Arsenal Golf Course, a score of 65 has never been recorded. Torgah, who played 2 under the first day, takes the lead with a total score of 9 under.
“Nigeria’s number one ranked player, Odoh who played 1 under (71) is currently sitting second with 5 under after 36 holes.
“ Mubasiru Sanusi holds the third position with a total of 1 under followed by Gift Willy and Atako Morgan who tied for fifth place with even par.
“The third and final round will take place today, concluding the first season of the West Africa Golf Tour,’’ Osuhor said.
NAN recalls that Odoh entered the completion with the hope to win his fourth WAGT title.
He took an early lead at the end of the first round, scoring 4 under par (68) to lead the field of 27 players before Torgah shove him off.
Other West African countries participating in the tournament included Senegal and Cameroon.
The total prize money for the championship is 25,000 dollars with the winner expected to pocket 4,500 dollars and 600 points for the Order of Merit. (NAN)
