Yola, Dec. 17, 2016 (NAN) Members of the Sub-committee on Economic Development of the Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) have concluded their on-the -spot tour of Adamawa and Taraba.
Briefing newsmen on Saturday in Yola, the Chairman of the sub-committee, Rep. Yusuf Buba, said the body had visited affected areas and had fruitful discussions with stakeholders.
Buba said while in Adamawa, the committee visited all the seven affected local government areas of Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, Hong, Maiha and Gombi.
He described the devastation in Madagali and Michika as serious, adding that virtually all public buildings like schools and police stations were affected.
“The situation in Madagali and Michika is so bad in terms of infrastructure as there is no government infrastructure standing.
“ The schools and police stations are completely burnt down, including the local government secretariat.
“We visited those hospitalised as a result of the recent bombing in Madagali and we made drugs and cash donations to them on behalf of Mr President and our chairman, Gen. T.Y Danjuma,’’ Buba said.
Expressing the Federal Government’s commitment to the North East restoration project, Buba said the committee inaugurated the reconstructed a bridge in Hong Local Government Area linking Adamawa to Borno and neighbouring Cameroon.
Buba, who is also the member representing Hong/Gombi Federal Constituency of Adamawa, lauded the reception accorded the committee by the people of the affected areas.
He gave an assurance that the committee would submit its report to Abuja for prompt action.(NAN)
