Oyo (Oyo State), Dec. 17, 2016 (NAN) The 91/96 set of Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo has presented the newly renovated HSC block, hosting six classrooms to the school as a contribution to their alma mater.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the newly renovated six-classroom storey building was presented to the school on Saturday during the 20th Valedictory Anniversary of the set in Oyo.
NAN reports that the Oyo State Government recently launched a new education policy which encourages various stakeholders to support government in its educational development efforts.
Mrs Oluyinka Omitade, the representative of Oyo State Commissioner of Education, appreciated the set for the renovation work, urging others to emulate such.
Omitade stated that such contribution was in line with the ongoing education initiative of the state government, which encourages support from all stakeholders.
“This is a great job done here. You have done well. A school like Olivet deserved more, having produced accomplished Nigerians.
“Oyo State Government has begun the restructuring of the education in the state to reposition it to its pace setting status,” she said.
She stated that the project was a welcome idea, adding that it would reduce the burden on the state government.
Omitade said that government would continue to encourage and welcome such contributions from old students, Parent Teachers Association (PTA), associations and wealthy Nigerians.
Mr Adekunle Ogunmola, the President, National Old Students Association of the school (NOSA) commended the set for their laudable project.
Ogunmola, who was represented by Chief Adebayo Adesope, urged others to emulate such ideas by giving back to the society.
Mrs Abosede Ogunmola, the Principal of the school, urged the set not to relent in such contributions.
She said that the renovation work carried out by the set was one of the best received so far, urging others to emulate such.
Mr Lucas Adekunle, a retired teacher of the school appreciated the contribution, saying he was not surprised at such.
“I registered these students in 1991. I was their teacher and house master. Though it was a little turbulent but they performed excellently well.
“What they have done is marvellous. I have always prayed that they excelled and I am happy they are doing well,” he said.
Mr Kehinde Abioye, the Senior Prefect of the school appreciated the set for giving back to the school.
“We are very grateful to you for creating a conducive atmosphere for us to learn. This project will help us a lot.
“We won’t want you to stop at this but continue with the efforts at ensuring the school sustains its status of excellence,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 3-day event, which commenced on Friday, Dec. 16 featured Jumat Service, Medical Outreach, Novelty Games, Networking Session, Re-union Party and Thanksgiving Service at the school church. (NAN)
