Abuja, Dec. 16, 2016 (NAN) A Musical and Art group, Splendvic Music Ministry, said the group is staging a Christmas cantata to bring out hidden musical talents in children.

Its Coordinator, Mr Daniel John, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday that the group would focus more on children with talents in different aspects of music.

He explained that Cantata is a music word that has to do with short musical pitch with good and classical instrumentation.

He added that the lyrical content of cantata is taken from the Bible and some other religious books.

He noted that “this time around, we are putting up this programme to encourage children and to see how children, those that are talented in music, dance and opera and in talk shows, could be encouraged.

“That is why we are making this emphasis on ` kids got talent.”

John said the group wanted to give different touch to what gospel music used to be,
and also make gospel music interesting and meaningful, as well as pleasant.

He said “even if you are not a Christian, you can listen to it and be at peace with yourself.

“One of the primary aims of this programme is to encourage children with special talents in them not to give up in keeping up their talents.

“We want a situation whereby children with particular skill can weather the storm
so that anywhere they find themselves they will have something to do.”

The coordinator said the group wanted to impact in the children the ability to learn how to apply the talents in them and what they tend to gain by developing those talents.

“If you have a skill you cannot be idle.

“It has also been discovered that children that are involved in music, perform better academically and are happier.

“So, encourage them to unfold, to blossom into adults who can compete with others anywhere and raise their shoulders high in victory and admiration.”

He said that the programme, which would hold on Dec. 17 at Christ Gospel Mission Church, Karu Site, Abuja, would feature Kids Got Talent, classical/jazz, Opera, Dance, among others.

John also said that kids from age three to 17 would come under kids category,
while 18 years and above would come under adult. (NAN)
