Bauchi NAWOJ solicits support of heads of media organisations to serve humanity

Bauchi, 15 Dec. 2016 (NAN) Newly elected Bauchi State Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Mrs Bulak Afsa, on Thursday appealed to heads of media organisations in the state to support the association in its activities.

Making the appeal when paid courtesy call on heads of media organisations in the states, Afsa, a staff of the Nigeria Television Authority, Bauchi, said NAWOJ had lined up programmes geared towards educating the people, especially women.

She said the support from the media chiefs could be in form of advice, allocation of broadcast airtime or coverage of activities of the association.

According to her, NAWOJ will give priority to issues pertaining the welfare and rights of women and children in the state.

Afsa noted that as the weaker sex, females deserved the support of everybody to develop themselves and nurture the children who are the leaders of tomorrow.

In their separate remarks, the heads of media organisations commended the association for engaging in humanitarian activities, especially in support of women and children in the state.

The Zonal Manager of NAN in Bauchi, Mr Abdullahi Salihu, urged them to concentrate on gender-related issues, noting that women and children in the state needed their support.

Managing Director of Bauchi State Television (BATV), Alhaji Abdullahi Idris  task the new executives of the association  to produce  programmes that would impact on the lives of women and children in the state.

He pledged to provide NAWOJ with airtime slot for the propagation of its enlightenment programmes.

Mr Ahmed Chidaya, Head of Federal Ministry of Information in Bauchi, urged women journalists to avail themselves of the ministry’s computer training centre to update their knowledge on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) gadgets.

Also receiving the NAWOJ officials, Managing Director of Bauchi Radio Corporation, Mrs Jummai Bello, urged her colleagues to live up to the challenge of their social responsibility of educating the society, especially the womenfolk.

Bello, who was the State Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA) before her recent appointment as the first female head of the state-owned radio station, said being women journalists, NAWOJ members were better placed to assist women. (NAN)
