Africa scrabble champion optimistic of retaining title

Abuja, Dec.15, 2016 (NAN) The current African Scrabble Champion, Nsikakabasi Etim, on Thursday expressed optimism that he would retain the title.

Etim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Abuja that he had prepared adequately for the 14th edition of the championship slated to hold in Tema, Ghana from Dec. 15 to Dec. 18.

According to him, it is God that crowns champions and I pray and hope that God will also crown my hard work in this edition.

“I have been training very hard to ensure I retain the trophy. I have been in close camping for two weeks and I hope to perform well’’, he said.

Etim said his greatest contenders were his follow Nigerian scrabble players because they had been training and playing together for a long time.

“All I need to retain the trophy is to look out for their weakness and lash on it to make the difference’’, he said.

Twenty three Nigeria scrabble players departed Lagos for Ghana on Wednesday to participate in the championship.

NAN also reports that between 80 and 100 participants are expected from South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Tanzania and the host Ghana. (NAN)
