Abuja, Dec.15, 2016 (NAN) Justice Abubakar Talba of FCT High Court, Gudu on Thursday, admitted Sani Magaji and Mohammed Aliyu, charged with possession of firearms and  robbery to N1million bail each.

Ruling on their bail application, Talba ordered that the defendants must produce two sureties each in like sum.

He said that the sureties must be reasonable and responsible citizens who reside in the FCT.

He also directed the Divisional Police Officer to verify the addresses of the sureties and confirm from neighbours whether or not “they are persons of good character’’.

The judge said that the defendants were admitted to bail because the prosecution did not oppose the motion for their bail filed by their counsel, Mr Christian Achebe on Nov15.

The defendants, Magaji, 27, and Aliyu, 25, had at their arraignment on June 20, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and robbery.

The prosecutor, Mr Malik Taiwo had told the court that the Commissioner of Police in the FCT was informed through intelligence report of a hide-out of robbers in Karamajiji, Lugbe, on May 1.

He said that consequently the CP dispatch a crack team of policemen to arrest the hoodlums who usually disperse from the hideout to loot and rob people of their valuable property.

“On raiding the hideout, the two defendants were arrested while one ran away.

“Upon their search, a pistol with two live cartridges was recovered in the possession of Sani Magaji,’’ Taiwo said. (NAN)
