Man in court over alleged theft of N85,000 after hypnotising friend

Lagos, Dec. 14, 2016 (NAN) A 39-year-old man, Bidemi Opeyemi , who allegedly hypnotised his friend and stole N85,000 from him, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’Court, Lagos.

Opeyemi, who resides at No. 19, Fagba, Iju- Ishaga Road, Agege, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor told the court that the accused, who pleaded not guilty, committed the offences sometime in July at Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.

Victor alleged that the accused hypnotised and took the Automated Teller Machine card of his friend, one Usman Danjuma, and used it to transfer N85, 000 to his own account.

He said that Danjuma, the complainant was surprised to get an alert of withdrawal from his account, so he quickly rushed to the bank to inquire about what happened.

“The complainant was shocked to discover that his friend had stolen N85, 000 from his account.

“Danjuma reported the case to the police and the accused was traced to his house, where he was arrested,” Victor said.

He said that the offence contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused a bail of N100, 000 with two sureties.

Anifowoshe said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and also show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 21, 2017 for mention. (NAN)
