Abuja, Dec. 13, 2016 (NAN) Mr Babachir Lawal, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has restated Federal Government commitment to revamp and take Nigeria out of economic recession in 2017.

Mr Bolaji Adebiyi, the Director of Press in the Office of the SGF, quoted Babachir as saying this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

The SGF spoke when he received a delegation from the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Archdiocese of Abuja.

Babachir told the delegation that the foundation for a diversified economy had already been laid; adding that the 2017 budget will further strengthen the economy.

He assured that President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to improve national security, fight corruption and overhaul the economy would not be compromised.

Babachir commended the church and religious leaders across the country for their support to the Federal Government and implored them to continue to pray for the peace and security of the country.

In his remark, the leader of the delegation and the Archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, Most Rev. Joseph Job, pledged the commitment of the church to support the federal government in the fight against corruption.

He identified corruption as the “number one enemy of Nigeria”, adding that the major ills of the country, including youth unemployment, poor and weak infrastructure, injustice and insecurity were products of corruption.

The Archbishop, who commended the federal government for securing the release of some Chibok girls, urged the government to explore all avenues to ensure the release of the remaining girls.

He applauded the government for its efforts in diversifying the economy and pledged the support of the church in the recently launched “Change begins with me” campaign. (NAN)
