Abuja, Dec. 13, 2016 (NAN) Mr Cemal Yigit, President, Association of Turkish People in Nigeria (ATPEN), has blamed the political crisis rocking Turkey on the imposition of military constitution on the people.

Yigit told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday that the country was being run by a military imposed constitution, introduced in 1982.

He said the constitution; designed to defend the state against the citizens had over the years subjected the people to a high degree of oppression.

He said Turkey had been home for many civilisations in history but added that the country had failed to take advantage of it to learn how to co-exist and live in harmony.

“Apparently, the latest happening in Turkey is not the case because the recent ideologies have taken over our lives.

“Rather than accepting each other as humans, we start judging each other with our own ideologies and most of these ideologies are surrounded by politically motivated reasons,” he said.

He said the nature of Turkey state demanded that all citizens must be loyal to the government without room for criticism.

According to him, with the development and civilisation, people are now more liberal, have different views, look at things from different angles as well as have different understandings on issues.

“The country should be shaped in line with developments and civilisation and this can only be guaranteed through civilian constitution.

“Once the constitution is not allowing you to work according to the demand of the people, it results to anarchy and that is what is happening in Turkey,” he said. (NAN)
