Birnin Kebbi, Dec. 8, 2016 (NAN) The Kebbi State Scholarship Board has commenced the screening of 10,000 applicants that would be awarded scholarship allowances in the 2016/17 academic session.
Dr Sahabi Yauri, the executive secretary of the board, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
He said the screening was meticulous as each of the applicants had to present the original copies of their credentials including evidence of indigene and admission letters.
Yauri said the exercise was aimed at preventing impersonation and other sharp practices that might be inimical to the objectives of the board and the state government.
The executive secretary who said the exercise would last one month, added that, ”the board will ensure proper screening of all eligible applicants before we award the scholarship”.
Yauri lauded the state governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, for granting autonomy to the board.
He said this had given the board the opportunity to perform its functions without any external influence.
NAN reports that the Kebbi State Government had, in the last one year, settled the backlog of tuitions and registration fees amounting to N1.2billion.(NAN)
