Jos, Dec. 7, 2016 (NAN) The Federal Education Quality Assurance Service (FEQAS), has embarked on the inspection of secondary schools in the country to assess their infrastructural facility and readiness for quality of education.
Mrs. Moji Adeniyi, leader of the team, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday, while inspecting 12 secondary schools in Jos, Plateau.
She said that quality evaluation in secondary schools was necessary as it would ensure uniform standards among learners across the country, and also ensure that students learnt under conducive environment.
According to her, the national target is for every school leaver to have at least five credits in the senior secondary school certificate results, including in Mathematics and English language.
“Quality evaluation in secondary schools is not new. We do it every three years to assess the level of infrastructure available for quality education.
“It is also to ensure that effective and efficient education is delivered to students in the secondary schools.
“We want to ensure a uniform standard among learners across the country and improve performances in final examinations,” she said.
Adeniyi said that the exercise would equally ensure effective and comprehensive implementation of school curriculum and also ensure that pedagogy standards were strictly adhered to.
She listed areas inspected to include security, feeding, health facilities and the quality and quantity of health personnel.
Adeniyi said that 26 schools were listed for the inspection but that only 12 would be inspected due to lack of funds.
“ Our recommendations will be sent to the schools to know areas to be improved upon, while a complete report on education in Plateau would be sent to the minister of education, the permanent secretary and other stakeholders,” she said. (NAN)
