Lagos, Dec. 7, 2016 (NAN) Ejiro Amos-Tafiri, one of the nation’s renowned fashion designers has urged unemployed youths to acquire skills that will make them self-reliant.

Amos-Tafiri told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the acquisition of necessary skills would also make them independent.

According to her, there is also the need for youths to acquire basic which will serve as foundation for anything they intend to become in life.

He stated that many young entrepreneurs failed, because they were not well grounded for the ventures they delved into.

“Youths should look within themselves and acquire a skill; this is the time of entrepreneurship and this is the time of do it by yourself.

“They should look inward and think out of the box, find their own strength and not copy or imitate anyone to succeed.

“In the creativity of the art, there is a certain proper way to do it; whatever you want to do in life, the right thing to do is to get basic education instead of being blank.

“That is where people are not basically doing it right as it were in the industry; they are not getting the proper education, so there is lack of expertise,’’ she said.

Amos-Tafiri said in spite of the unrestricted nature of entry into her line of business, many of those that are in it lacked the expertise to become successful designers.

“But without planning and research, the success level might not be so much.

“The real thing is that people should get proper education before going into the industry.

“Many people discover the logic behind cloth making as they go, but it could have been done differently.

“But if you do the planning like every other businesses in the whole world, there is more likelihood that you will succeed.’’

She, however, commended the Federal Government for providing funds for entrepreneurs and special funds for the fashion and garment manufacturing sector, but called for proper training. (NAN)
