Immunity
By Ugonne Uzoma
Owerri, Dec. 6, 2016 (NAN) A registered dietician, Mrs Iheoma Nwabueze has emphasised the need for a healthy diet to avoid respiratory infections during the Harmattan season.
Nwabueze made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Owerri.
The expert said healthy diet had become necessary because the season had always been accompanied by dust and made people more vulnerable to colds and other viral infections.
She said that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and other natural ingredients helped to boost immunity against such infections.
Nwabueze recommended consumption of whole foods including grains, meat and dairy for the formation of a stronger immune response.
The dietician also stressed the need to feed on diets rich in fruits such as watermelons, grapefruit, oranges and other sources of vitamin C. (NAN)
