Ilorin, Dec. 6, 2016 (NAN) Tunde Kazeem, Chairman, Directors Sports Forum in Nigeria, has urged all the tiers of government to appropriate adequate funds to sports development because of its potential to stem youth restiveness.
Kazeem made the appeal while reacting to the Super Falcons’ win of the just-concluded Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) for a record eight times on Saturday in an interview with the news Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Kazeem, also the Kwara Director of Sports, described the Super Falcons resounding victory as an unbeatable record, attributing it to hardwork, commitment, perseverance and doggedness on the team’s part.
He commended their Coach, Florence Omagbemi, for giving back to the sport and society that made her and for creating another record of winning the trophy as a player and as a Coach.
Kazeem appealed to the Federal Government to do the needful and adequately compensate the players for their efforts in bringing glory to the nation.
He also urged the three tiers of government to stop paying lip service to sports development, describing it as a way of engaging the youths positively.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Super Falcons defeated the competition’s hosts, the Lionesses of Cameroon 1-0 to lift the prestigious trophy.
Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala, who plays for Arsenal FC of England Ladies team, also won the golden boot of the tournament for scoring six goals. (NAN)
