Lagos, Dec. 5, 2016 (NAN) A bricklayer, Alimi Olalekan, who allegedly obtained N210,000 under false pretence of selling a parcel of land, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Olalekan of Opayinka village, by Ibogun village, Ifo in Ogun, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused, 44, defrauded the complainant, one Mr Ogunleye Dele, of N210,000.
He said the offence was committed sometime in August 2015 at Kola via Ipaja, Lagos.
Ishaku alleged that the accused had earlier told the complainant that the land was N1.2m, of which the complainant deposited N210,000.
“An agreement was reached to pay the balance by January, but it was later discovered that the land had been resold to another at N1.2m.
“Refusing to refund the money, the accused, unknown to the complainant, relocated from Lagos to Ifo in Ogun.
“He was later tracked down by the Police at his present address,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for offenders.
Olalekan, however, pleaded not guilty.
The trial judge, Mr J. A. Adegun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case to Dec. 12 for mention. (NAN)
