Ikeja, Sept. 25, 2018 (NAN) A 35-year-old employee, Seyi Adeleke, on Tuesday in Lagos appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly absconding with employer’s N109,000 after two months of employment.
Adeleke, who resides at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, is facing stealing charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 19, at Alafia, Mushin, Lagos.
Koti said that the accused stole the money belonging to GOC Automobile Ltd.
“The accused was employed in July as a driver and was later given a Toyota Corolla car to be delivering N40,000 weekly.
“The accused fraudulently converted the money realised to his personal use.
“He came to the office, abandoned the car and ran away.
“He was later arrested and handed over to the police,’’ the prosecutor said.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years jail term for stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded innocent to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, granted the accused N80, 000 bail with one surety as part of the bail conditions.
Tanimola said that the surety should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until Oct. 22, for mention. (NAN)
