Yenagoa, Nov. 20, 2016 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bayelsa on Sunday said no fewer than 267 persons were involved in road traffic accidents in the state between January and October.

Mr Wobin Gora, State FRSC Sector Commander disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa, after the Corps’ Church/Thanksgiving Service to conclude activities marking the 2016 Africa Safety Day/World Day Remembrance.

NAN reports that the Church Service was held at Evangelical Church Winning All (EWCA), Edie-Epie, Yenagoa.

Gora said that the four-day programme, which commenced on Nov. 17 nationwide, was in commemoration of the road traffic crash victims in the country and the African Continent.

“Between January and October, we have records of 267 victims from 41 road crashes in Bayelsa, among the crashes, six are fatal, 24 are serious, while 11 are the minor crashes.

“Out of the 267 persons, seven were dead, 52 were injured while 208 came out unhurt,” he said.

The Commander, who raised concerns over the record, said most of the crashes were caused by reckless driving and speeding.

He urged motorists in the state to drive with caution and according to traffic rules and regulations.(NAN)
