Ibadan, Sept. 5,2018 (NAN) A 30-year-old man, Abiola Mulaila, was on Wednesday charged before an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC)’s cable worth N10 million.
Mulaila is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, malicious damage and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Mr Tijani Williams, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some other persons still at large on June 30 at Eruwa, Oyo State.
Williams said the offences contravened Sections 390, 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
He urged the court not to grant bail to the accused, saying that the he needed not show any special circumstances why the accused should not be granted bail.
“The responsibility is on the accused counsel to prove to the court why his client should be granted bail,’’ he said.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Akingbade Ogunmuyila, urged the court to grant his client bail, saying it was the duty of the prosecutor to show special circumstances while bail should not be given to the accused.
Justice A. Akintola remanded the accused in prison pending the ruling on the bail application, and said the court would send the date of the ruling to both counsels. (NAN)
