Jos, Sept. 5, 2018 (NAN) The United Nations on Wednesday began training of no fewer than 50 stakeholders for the successful implementation of Plateau State Action Plan (PSAP) on peace.

The stakeholders were drawn from the Ministry of Women Affairs, the PSAP coordinator, security agencies, Civil Society Organisations, traditional institutions and the media.

Mrs Anna Izam, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, said that the workshop was to aid implementation of PSAP on United Nations Security Resolution Council (UNSCR 1325).

“The UNSCR 1325 hinges on gender parity at all level of decision making, engaging women for peace and security building processes and protecting their rights while curbing gender violence emanating from insecurity.

The PSAP was produced from the National Action Plan (NAP) at the Federal level as its guideline. I am proud to mention that Plateau was one of the first states to domesticate this plan.

“We have also gone a step further to produce the Local Action Plans (LAPs) for four pilot local government areas of Jos-North, Mangu, Riyom and Wase,’’ Izam said.

Also, the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Aisha Alhassan, said that Nigeria had developed its first NAP in 2013 while the second NAP was launched in 2017 to incorporate emerging peace and security issues.

Alhassan, represented by Mrs Friya Bulus, the Deputy Director, Women’s Rights and Gender Development in the ministry, said that 11 states have developed their action Plans.

“Twelve LGAS in Plateau, Kano and Gombe States have developed their LAPS. We commend Plateau for further translating their LAPS in eight local dialects and in Braille to ensure inclusiveness.

“We have trained 20 FMWAD to monitor and coordinate the implementation of the 2nd NAP at all levels which will commence next quarter,’’ she said.

Also, Mr Peter Mancha, the Deputy Programme Manager of UN women, said that the workshop was to identify roles stakeholders could play for the effective implementation of the PSAP and monitor its progress.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the PSAP is being reviewed after every three years.

The implementation is facilitated by the UN Women and funded by the European Union. (NAN)
