Ikeja, Aug. 27, 2018 (NAN) A 29-year-old employee, Abimbola Siyanbode, was arraigned on Monday before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s laptop valued at N250,000.

The Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, said that the accused committed the offence on June 8, at Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.

He told the court that the accused stole the laptop belonging to one Mr Ayodele Oyebanjo of Digilean Nigeria Ltd.

“The accused, who is an engineer, was given the HP laptop to take to his company office for repair and deliberately did not deliver the laptop; instead, he claimed that the laptop was stolen from him,’’ Ayorinde said.

He said that the accused was handed over to the police because he committed the same offence on March 15 and was forgiven.

“The accused committed similar offence five months ago, when he was given a phone and a laptop, both valued at N400,000, to take to their branch office for repair.

“He came back and fabricated a statement that those items got lost in transit,” the prosecutor said.

Ayorinde said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The section prescribes three years jail term for stealing.

Siyanbode, who resides at Ikorodu, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until Sept. 10, for mention. (NAN)
