Waiter docked over alleged attempt to commit offence

Ikeja, Aug. 24, 2018(NAN) A 25-year-old waiter, Clinton Ekong, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly jumping into a bank premises at night, with intent to commit an offence.
The defendant, who was arraigned before Magistrate Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, on a count charge bordering on intent to commit felony, denied the charge.
The defendant who resides at Ipaja, Lagos, was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
Osunsanmi said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Sept. 10 for mention.
The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 16 at Agidingbi, Ikeja.
He said that the accused attempted to commit an offence by jumping into the premises of the bank.
“The accused, at 2.30 a.m., scaled the main gate to gain entry into the bank.
“Unfortunately for him, the security guard on duty saw him jump into the premises.
“When he was accosted and interrogated, he could not give account of his mission.
“The security guard called the police and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.
Ayorinde said the offence violated Section 406(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates seven years imprisonment for intent to commit felony.(NAN)
