Lagos, Aug. 24, 2018 (NAN) A 30-year-old roofing contractor, Kayode Adeyemi, who allegedly defrauded his client of N290,000, on Friday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Adeyemi, who was arraigned on a two-count charge of fraudulent conversion of money and theft, however, denied the charge.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike, the accused defrauded Mr Tijani Adeshina-Raman on the pretext of roofing his building.
Dike said that the contractor committed the offences on June 15 at 10:30a.m. at Wabash Hotel, Sangotedo, Ajah, Lagos.
He submitted that Adeyemi collected the sum from Adeshina-Raman but did not render the service he was paid for.
“After the accused was paid, he stopped coming to the site and could not be reached on phone.
“The complainant later traced him to his house where he was arrested,” Dike said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offences contravene Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem, granted the accused 50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and one of them a relative of the accused.
Substantive hearing in the case has been fixed for Sept. 19 (NAN)
