Ibadan, Aug. 23, 2018 (NAN) The Federal Secretariat in Ibadan came alive as workers resumed after a two-day public holiday to mark the Eid-el-Kabir.
The Federal Government had declared Tuesday and Wednesday as public holidays to celebrate the Sallah.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who monitored activities at the secretariat located at Ikolaba area of Ibadan, reports that some workers were sighted at their offices as early as 8:10 am.
Though some of the offices at the secretariat were bare due to the late arrival of some civil servants, some workers were seen cleaning files, tables and chairs in readiness for the day’s work.
At the office of the Centre for Management Development, Mrs Deborah Adeyemo and Agnes Odiagbe expressed their readiness to commence work.
Adeyemo said the holiday provided an opportunity for her to spend quality time with her family.
Odiagbe, on her part, said she was able to carry out some domestic chores and rest during the festival.
Adepoju Olayiwola, a staff of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, said some workers in the agency had resumed for work.
Olayiwola, who described the Sallah holiday as peaceful, added that he was able to spend time with his family.
”We have resumed with more zeal and enthusiasm for work and for better performance.
‘I urge my colleagues in other ministries and agencies to put in more efforts toward optimum performance for the growth of our country, ’’he said.
At the office of the National Directorate of Employment, Mr Mathew Olaniyan, a security guard, told NAN that some of the staff of the agency were already at their duty posts.
Olaniyan said he was on duty throughout the holiday period due to the nature of his work.
NAN also reports that commercial activities had picked up in Ibadan metropolis as banks and other private businesses were open for transaction.
Taxis, commercial motorcyclists and tricycle operators were back in business on the popular Iwo road, Mokola and Challenge areas as well as Gate Bus-stop terminal. (NAN)
