Lafia,Aug. 18, 2018 (NAN) A member representing Lafia North constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, has distributed clothing materials worth millions of naira to over 500 people in his constituency.
Alkali, while distributing the items in Lafia on Saturday, said that the gesture was to reduce the plight people normally face during any festive period like Eid-el-Kabir.
Alkali, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is the Chairman, House Committee on Public Complaints and Petition.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that the clothing materials, which include cotton yards, wrappers among others were distributed to both Muslims and Christians youths, women and elders in the constituency.
He said that the gesture would go a long way in improving on the standard of living of the people during and after the sallah celebration.
“This gesture is part of my welfare package to the people of my constituency that were drawn from Shabu, Kwandere, Arikiya, Adogi, Ashige and Assakio electoral wards.
“Everybody in my constituency can testify to what I have done since my assumption of office towards improving on their standard of living and boosting their socio-economic activities.
“It is good to always show love, affection, charity and to extend hands of friendship to the needy and other people in the society, hence the need for the gesture so as to touch their lives positively,” he said.
Alkali urged the beneficiaries to ensure judicial use of the items, while assuring them of a fruitful and quality representation at the State Assembly.
The lawmaker called on the people to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura to achieve success in the task ahead of them.
In a remark, Alhaji Abdullahi Baba, the APC Zonal Chairman of Nasarawa South Senatorial district, commended the lawmaker for executing meaningful projects that impacts positively on the lives of the people of the constituency.
Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke during the distribution of the items, described the gesture as first of its kind in the area and called on other lawmakers to emulate him.
They also assured the lawmaker of their support to enable him succeed in his assignment. (NAN)
