Nassarawa Eggon (Nasarawa State), Aug. 17, 2018 (NAN) The Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has organised a training programme for the council’s health workers to improve their skills and provide quality service delivery for the people.
Mr Haruna Kuje, the Director, Primary Health Care Centre (PHC) of the area, made this disclosure on Friday in Nassarawa Eggon at a one-day symposium organised for selected community health workers.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that more than 15 health workers, manning health facilities in the area were selected for the programme.
Kuje said that the aim of the training was to equip community health workers and other health practitioners with the skills for effective service delivery in their respective primary health care centres.
“This training is aimed at updating the knowledge of health practitioners, especially those manning primary health care centres in this area in order to improve on the health status of our people.
“There is the need to continue updating the knowledge of health workers with modern skills in order to meet up with the health challenges of the people, especially the rural dwellers.
“The training is also to help health workers to tackle the prevalence of maternal and child mortality.
“It will also enable them to perform their duties in line with the vision of government in improving the health and wellbeing of rural dwellers,” he said.
Kuje called on the health practitioners in the area to abide by the code of their professional ethics in the interest of the health of the people.
He urged the participants to pay attention and use the knowledge gained to improve on the health conditions of the residents in their respective places of primary assignment.
The director lauded the State Primary Health Care Development Agency for initiating good policies and programmes, which had direct bearing on the health and lives of the people and called for its sustenance.
One of the participants, Mr Godwin Namo, said for health care service to improve at the grassroots, health practitioners must do the needful towards impacting positively on the lives of their patients.
“We must abide by the ethics of our profession and the health of our people should be our concern,” he said. (NAN)
