An official of the corporation, Mr Aminu Alhakim, who presented the keys of the completed cafe to the council Chairman, Abba Mato in Daura on Wednesday, said the initiative was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
He said the corporation, currently operating in collaboration with Airtel Nigeria, had established 20 similar internet cafes in various parts of the country, mostly in rural areas to promote the quest for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education.
Alhakim said 15 out of the 20 cafes were fully operational, adding that the remaining five would soon be completed.
“ICT training will be provided to interested persons free of charge and we have recruited a resource person in each of the existing training centers,” he added.
He therefore urged people in the area to use the opportunity to become computer literate and keep tabs of benefits in the global ICT sector.
Responding, Mato, Daura local council chairman commended the company for the donation and pledged that the internet cafe would be made operational and attractive to the people.
“My council members and I will register as students in this very important venture,” he said, and assured of regular maintenance of the cafe.(NAN)
