Two Tricyclists in court over alleged bag snatching

Lagos, Aug. 10, 2018 (NAN) Two tricyclists, who allegedly snatched a woman’s bag containing two phones worth N61,500 at the bus stop were on Friday brought before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The two accused, Michael Martins, 25, and Modupe Ademola, 29, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.

The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted N200,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The prosecutor, Hafsat Ajibode, told the court that the two accused committed the offences on July 24 at 10 p.m. at Adeola Odeku Junction, Victoria Island, Lagos.

She said that the accused conspired to snatch a bag belonging to Blessing Iyanda, which contained her two phones worth N61, 500.

“Iyanda, who just closed from work was at the bus stop looking for a means of transportation to take her home, Ademola who rode the tricycle parked close to her and asked where she was going.

“The second accused Martins jumped down from the tricycle and snatched her bag, Iyanda raised alarm and the two were caught before they could zoom off with the bag,” she said.

The offences contraven Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes three years and two years imprisonment respectively for offenders.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted bail to the accused, with sureties who must be gainfully employed and one must be related to the accused persons.

Further hearing on the case has been fixed for Aug. 14 (NAN)
