Ikeja, Aug. 9, 2018 (NAN) Two men, Adekunle Yusuf and Anu Olaoluwa, on Thursday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued N220,000.
Yusuf, 25, a furniture maker, and Olaoluwa, 24, a driver, both residents of Mushin, Lagos, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the accused committed the offences around 2 p.m. on Aug. 1, at Idi-Araba, Mushin, Lagos.
He said that the accused conspired to steal the motorcycle, property of Mr Saidu Jamiu.
“The complainant parked his motorcycle in his brother’s shop to buy sachet water.
“On his return, he found out that his motorcycle was missing from where he parked it.
“The accused approached the complainant, told him that they could help him to recover his motorcycle, adding that he should give them N200,000 for the task.
“The complainant suspected the accused because of their demand, and he reported the case to the police.
“The police arrested the accused, and when a search was conducted, the motorcycle was found in the house of one of the accused,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing while Section 411 attracts two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The accused denied committing the offences and they were admitted to bail of N100,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
The magistrate, Mrs O. J. Awope, said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Further hearing has been fixed for September 3. (NAN)
