Cheating

Abuja, Aug. 8, 2018 (NAN) A 42-year-old man, Ugwu Uchechukwu, was on Wednesday brought before a Karu Magistrate Court, sitting in Abuja over alleged criminal breach of trust.
The defendant, who resides at Ado, Karu in Nasarawa State, is facing a two-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Prosecutor, Edwin Ochayi, said that the complainant one Chibuzo Chikelu, reported at the Karu Police Station, Abuja that the accused allegedly cheated him by breaching the agreement they had.
He said that sometime in July, 2017, Chikelu entrusted one Toyota Coaster High Capacity bus with registration number XB373KRV to the accused to be used for commercial purpose.
He said that the accused and Chikelu agreed that the accused should remit N50,000 to him on a weekly basis.
The prosecutor said the accused “with intent to cheat Chikelu, deliberately refused to remit the agreed amount, which amounted to N2.2 million and converted the money to his personal use.”
He told the court that during police investigation, the defendant denied the allegations.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Abubakar Umar, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 13, for hearing. (NAN)
