Abuja, Aug. 6, 2018 (NAN) A women solidarity group, Noble Women Movement for Buhari and Osinbajo (NWM4BO), has commended the new Patient’s Bill of Rights recently signed into law by Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo.
The group said the bill demonstrated the current administration’s resolve to reform the nation’s beleaguered healthcare system.
The commendation was made in a statement jointly signed by the group’s Chairperson, Dame Judith Amaechi, and its Director of Publicity, Mrs Rachael Ahmadu.
The group said that the bill also demonstrated the progress being made in making qualitative healthcare service available to the citizenry.
“The bill, initiated by the Consumer Protection Council, covers the consumers or citizens relationship with insurers, health plans and everyone else in the healthcare systems.
” It contains basically health insurance reforms to cover the common good of health consumers.
“This is in fulfilment of one of the campaign promises of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
” The goal of the Patient Bill of Rights is to put Nigerian consumers back in charge of their health coverage and care.
”The Patient Bill of Rights was enacted and developed with the expectation that hospitals and health institutions would support these rights in the interest of delivering effective service to patients.
”This is to enable health providers render services without any man-made hindrances,” the group said.
It condemned the negative criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari by some disgruntled Nigerians, adding that the onslaught against the current administration of Buhari was unnecessary.
”Just as it has been observed in some quarters, Nigeria is a nation bedevilled by calamity and the only advocacy by some citizens is that the president should resign or be voted out.
“You don’t change a government with hate and malice; you change government with tact and strategies.
”These outdated strategies of using religion and ethnicity cannot fetch any electoral values,” the group said.
It called on the opposition parties to resign themselves to fate, noting that the president was not seeking office to promote any agenda other than his sworn oath of rescuing the nation from the claws of usurper and looters. (NAN)
