Lagos, Aug. 6, 2018 (NAN) Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has helped to save no newer than 500 accidents victims and other emergency victims in Lagos State in the past 12 months.

Dr Ndi Onuekwusi, HEI’s Board of Trustee Chairman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that the organisation made the intervention through its emergency healthcare services in hospitals.

According to the chairman, the NGO was set up by kindhearted Nigerians to prevent avoidable deaths.

“It is an organisation set up to intervene in certain areas of needs in the health sector to prevent avoidable deaths and suffering of people.

“HEI has intervened for more than 500 accidents victims and others within 12 months, and it is increasing by the day.

“It is unfortunate that people die because they are unable to pay for cheap health services as low as N2,000,’’ he said.

Onuekwusi told NAN that the organisation had intervened in the treatment of accidents victims who had nobody and were unconscious at the point of the accident.

He said that the NGO partnered with general hospitals in the state in the intervention.

“We intervene for various categories, the poor and needy who are ill and may die for lack of treatment that does not cost as much as N20,000.

’’HEI feels the gaps with accidents victims, having arrangements with government hospitals to start treatment on emergency victims before arrival of their relatives.

‘’There are so many people that have lost their lives as a result of delay in treatment of accident emergency cases; that is why HEI is dealing with emergency aspect to save people’s live,’’ he added.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has hailed the NGO for prompt assistance to accident victims.

The FRSC Lagos State Sector Commander, Mr Hyginus Omeje, made the commendation in Lagos during a five-kilometre walk, carnival and charity programme, organised by Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC), an audit firm. (NAN)
