Lagos, Aug. 6, 2018 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded an unemployed man, Yusuf Lateef, who pleaded guilty to robbing a woman at gunpoint.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi, ordered that the 30-year-old accused should be kept at the Kirikiri Prison pending review of the facts of the case and possible sentencing.

Adeyemi-Ajayi adjourned the case until Aug. 28.

The accused, whose address was not given, was charged with conspiracy and armed robbery.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 17 at 3, Hassan St., Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos.

Akeem said that the accused’s moves were suspected by pedestrians at a bus stop at Ilasamaja, Lagos.

“One of the pedestrians said that the accused was seen with four types of expensive mobile phones, and that his facial expression did not portray him as a person who could buy those phones.

“Some pedestrian then shouted for help to attract other people and they apprehended the accused.

“They were at the scene until policemen on patrol arrested all of them,” he said.

Akeem submitted that the accused confessed at a police station that he was an armed robber.

“He said that he and his gang robbed a woman identified as Mrs Precious Usiahon of her belonging.

“The accused said that they robbed the woman of her jewellery, mobile phones and N320,500, at gunpoint,” the prosecutor said.

Akeem told the court that the accomplices were at large.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offences contravene Sections 296 and 297 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.(NAN)
